Aleks Byrd - Estonian Canadian mother and American father - is an illustrator and knitwear designer living in Bath, UK. She is best known for modernising Estonian knitting traditions. Aleks has introduced techniques such as Roosimine (an intarsia technique that looks like embroidery) and Baltic Braids (knitted plaits) to knitters around the world.

We are happy that Aleks is coming to Hamburg on 15 and 16.07.22 and that we can finally offer workshops again! There will be a weekend with meet & greet and a trunk show. You can get her new book Traditions Revisited signed (if you already bought it from us, bring it along). You will also be able to admire designs from the book here.

On Friday, 15.07.2022 there will be the Roosimine workshop. Roosimine is an Estonian intarsia technique that uses intentional tension threads placed on the right side of the knitted piece with a constrast wool. It is the perfect technique to embellish your knitted piece. The class will be held in our shop from 6pm to 9pm. You can register in the shop or in the online shop.

On Saturday, 16.07.22 there will also be a meet & greet and trunk show. There will also be another workshop: Baltic Braids Baltic Braids are knitted braids and perfect to decorate your project. In the Baltic countries of Latvia and Estonia, there are many different types of braids that add interesting details to mittens, gloves, socks and jumpers. Learn about three different types of braids, the basic foundation, and experiment with colour combinations and directions.
